Alexandre Boulerice was a journalist and worked in the labour movement before he was first elected in 2011. Although always concerned about the environment and climate, a Green New Deal became a top priority for Boulerice after the release of the 2018 IPCC report and the rise of youth-led movements fighting for action on climate and inequality. His nominators note that Boulerice sees the NDP climate plan as “just the beginning” and that “he wants to involve community groups in the decision-making” around a just transition.
